Fabulous.com is For Domainers
We are big fans of Fabulous.com for their pricing, parking, support, sales and reporting tools for domainers. There are a few bugs we run into from time to time when looking for available domains, they primarily center around random domain available results missing when doing a bulk search. After discussing this with support, it seems they are aware of this issue and if checked individually the results are served properly.

Available Domains for $888?
While doing some available domain checking at Fabulous.com today, we ran across a domain, ChartSelect.com, that was tagged as premium and for sale for $888. This is not unusual because Fabulous has integrated their aftermarket sales platform into their checkout process and if a search is conducted that includes one of the names in the sales database, it offers it for sale. Trouble is, the domain was available to register. Not only that, but our WhoIs search done on Fabulous’ own servers are the ones who let us know that.

Not Just Limited to Fabulous
Fabulous.com has partnered with other Registrars for the aftermarket sales platform and one of those is GoDaddy. When checking the name for availability via them, it show similar results to Fabulous. Not Available-Premium Name for Sale-$888.
$8 At Name.com
Just to confirm that the name was available to register, we checked it with a registrar who was not a partner and it show it as available, Name.com.
Broader Questions than a Database Glitch
It is understandable (but not professional) that you might have some database caching and sync issues when integrating a sales process/platform into the registration process. What raises a question for us though is, “Why isn’t the whois the definitive “available” database and then if not available, a check then run on the sales database. This happened for two of the largest registrars on the planet. One of the reasons for using Fabulous and GoDaddy’s availability check system is that it was supposed to give real time results direct from the Verisign database rather than via a cached one. Does this now mean that we have to check the availability of all the “premium results” via a different tool before we can be satisfied that it is taken? Also, does this open up GoDaddy and Fabulous to potential lawsuits from a buyer who happens to buy that name, not knowing it was really available and only $8?
Feeling lucky? ChartSelect.com is still available to register–who knows, you might make a 100 fold return!

New Code for Cheap Domain Registrations from GoDaddy. Act quickly as, they typically have limits on how many they will allow with this code. Take a look through our lists and snag on at this great rate. Be sure to let us know what you select. There will be an ICANN fee so the total will be $5.17 and there is a one domain per account limit. Note you have to use a credit card and only one per account. Don’t Hesitate!

The Hits Keep on Coming
Got to give the Latona Auction group credit. They keep coming at you with long lists of $1 reserve auctions. The fact that they have moved to 7 days rather than 24 hours has taken some of the juice out of the format but still a tremendous opportunity for finding a bargain. This list of names comes from Steven Kaziyev, a regular customers of Rick Latona’s and regular at TRAFFIC events in New York. Steven is offering up 156 names for sale in this auction.
Numbers Summary
Some of these domains might have some branding and long-term appeal but the numbers for the vast majority do not look very good. The exact search figures dip below 1000 after only a dozen or so names and advertiser demand seems to be very limited. One of the names we were a little interested in “GravyBowls.com” seems to be an interesting misnomer(or less popular) term for “Gravy Boats”–but at the time of this writing the bidding had already reached $276–way more than we would have pegged it’s upper value to be. On the positive side all these names are .coms so there isn’t a need to weigh the value of various TLDs into you bid decision.

TRAFFIC Auction Analysis
As usual, the Milan TRAFFIC auction Latona’s has put together has a great list of names up for auction. That being said, many also come with very significant bid minimums…but you knew that.
Full disclosure: We also have one name in the auction… DogProofing.com if you are interested, check it out!
Getting Right into the Stats
Let get right to the heart of the matter, and that is the stats themselves. The auction is going on now so you need to act fast.
There are just over 200 names in the auction so going through it is pretty manageable. As you might expect, there are quite a few European ccTLDs in the mix as well as decent Geos to go along with the great keywords.
High Search Volume-All
Here we are only highlighting the EXACT searches with a million or more per month. Very nice list. You do have to filter through the different TLDs but still something nice to build upon.

High Search Volume-COM Only

What are the Advertisers Paying?
The finanace and loan names are the highest by far but based on much of the search volume, the revenue opportunities are still very significant.

The Full List
Have fun hunting though all these great options. Cheers!

Latona’s 1000 Name $1 Auction-April 26 to May 3rd
Latona’s auctions have gotten off to a terrific start and been able to sell a few hundred names in only the first week of their new Domain Auction format. Although we have been an active in quite a few of the auctions, making a 20+ bids on over a dozen different names, we were only able to win in one—CrystalChokers.com…for $1
. Granted we have been on the low end of bidding, only venturing above $250 2-3 times, but this demonstrates the amount of activity Latona’s has been able to generate in such a short time.
Changing Horses Mid Stream
Earlier we wrote about how Rick (Latona) originally intended to use the $1 reserve auctions as a promotional tactic to attract initial attention. They would then revert to their standard $200 minimum fee, guaranteeing that the minimum reserve would go up by a few hundred per name. Rick confirmed this when a few asked about the fate of $1 auction in the future. Well things have changed. The success of the first few $1 auction led to a slew of domainers approaching Latona’s with portfolio of names all at the $1 reserve price. Mr. Latona has confirmed that, in the case of a portfolio sale, they would charge their 15% ($200 min) commission on the revenue generated by entire auction rather than by individual name. As he stated in an email to his base of nearly 15,000 newsletter subscribers, “It’s seems we have discovered an untapped niche with this portfolio format, and we are going to run with it”(sic) This change will be to the benefit of all domainers, and allow for the continued low-reserve auctions. Nice! One thing we have noticed is that these auctions are not confined to 24 hours.

1000 Domains Offered at $1 reserve from a Mystery Domainer
It seems as if Laton’s has gone to a little bit of trouble to keep the identity of the portfolio private for some reason (prob at the owner’s request). One the problems is that it seems as if not all the registrations are behind a shell account or privacy. A quick whois info search of a corrected name, SkirtSuits.info, shows Jody Mishner to be the owner. We cannot confirm that either the name of the portfolio owner is being withheld or if he happens to be the owner. Frankly, it doesn’t even matter other than, if true, to demonstrate the quality of domainer that has Latona’s has been able to attract. The important part is the inventory itself.
The Inventory
This is a huge list of names and very hard to put into any specific category. It includes .com, .net, .info, .org and even a .us. Lots of keyword and geo long tail domains, and less obvious single word .coms. All in all there is plenty in here for anyone interested in keyword and revenue opportunities.
Where’s the Beef?
High Search Volume. Quite a few domains register over 40K exact searches out of this list. As you might expect, most are not .com domains but there are a few. Compare the General List with the Com only.
High Search Volume-All

High Search Volume-COM Only

High Ad Competiton
50 of the names in this auction come in at a full 100% according to Google for Keyword demand. Impressive.
Big Paydays for Clicks
Nearly as impressive as teh high ad demand is the number of domains with $10+ PPC averages. Not bad for affiliate or parking opportunities.

The Rest of the Story!
